The Next Season of Lay Ministry
2025 Lay Ministry Event
October 6, 9 – 11 AM | Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Palm Springs, CA
In 2016 The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod Convention discontinued the licensed lay deacon program and radically changed the landscape of lay ministry within districts. Lay ministry now belongs to the local congregations as people faithfully come alongside their pastors to serve their congregations and share Jesus with their communities. The Pacific Southwest District has never stopped providing training for people who want to serve in this way. In the past, it was done in person with students in the deacon and parish ministry assistant programs who gathered in locations throughout the district. Today, it is done online through the Mission Training Center.
All district lay ministers, deacons, parish ministry assistants, and pastors are invited to join us on Monday, October 6th, 9:00 – 11:00 AM at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Palm Springs to learn about the Next Season of Lay Ministry in the Pacific Southwest District. We will also set aside time to celebrate the faithful ministry of Dr. Victoria Waufle who is concluding her role as the PSD Lay Ministry Director.
Presenters:
-
District President, Rev. Dr. Mike Gibson
-
District Ministry Executive, Rev. Jim Henkell
-
Mission Training Center Director, Rev. Jonathan Priest
