At Orange Lutheran High School, the pursuit of excellence is an expression of gratitude to God, who equips His people for every good work. The recent recognition connected to the U.S. Department of Education’s National Blue Ribbon Schools program stands as a meaningful reflection of that commitment in action—one grounded in faith, service, and trust in the Lord’s faithfulness.

The Council for American Private Education (CAPE) recognized Orange Lutheran for meeting the rigorous criteria associated with the National Blue Ribbon Schools program. Although the U.S. Department of Education concluded the program before official awards were announced, CAPE honored private schools that completed the process and demonstrated its highest standards of academic and organizational excellence. Orange Lutheran was one of only three schools in California to receive this recognition, a distinction received with humility and thanksgiving to God.

Throughout this journey, God’s hand has been evident in countless ways. He has granted wisdom to teachers, vision to leaders, and a deep sense of calling to the entire school community. In classrooms, chapels, and co-curricular spaces, students have been nurtured both academically and spiritually. From STEM and fine arts to athletics and service opportunities, each area of the program has served as a place for students to discover their God-given gifts and learn to use them for God’s glory.

Dr. Jack Preus, Head of School, shared, “At Orange Lutheran, we want our students to be strengthened by Christ and prepared for life. This recognition points to the faithfulness of our teachers, staff, and students, and the shared calling we have with our families. Though the formal Blue Ribbon award is no longer presented, we receive this acknowledgment as a reminder that our pursuit of excellence is really about giving glory to God.”

This recognition also reflects the strength and unity of the Orange Lutheran community. Parents, faculty, and students have walked together in a shared vision of education that is both rigorous and redemptive. As part of the Pacific Southwest District (LCMS), Orange Lutheran’s work is one expression of a broader commitment to Christ-centered education that forms students in faith, character, and service.

Looking ahead, this moment serves as both encouragement and invitation—to continue growing, serving, and placing Christ at the center of all that is done. With gratitude to God and confidence in His leading, Orange Lutheran remains committed to educating the whole person—academically, spiritually, artistically, and athletically—so that faith, excellence, and character may continue to flourish.
